Jagdish Chandra Bose was born on 30 November 1858 in Raiuli village of Memansingh (present-day Bangladesh) in Memansingh, Faridpur in Dhaka district. His father’s name was Lord Chandra Bose, who served as Deputy Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner in many places including Faridpur, Bardhaman. Bose’s childhood was spent in Faridpur.

Initially, he got his primary education from a village school. Bose’s father wanted his son to learn his mother tongue before learning English. Bose passed his BA exam in his Physics group from Calcutta University and then moved to London to pursue medical science, however, due to poor health, he gave up the idea of becoming a doctor and in Natural Science from Christ’s College, Cambridge B.A. And then graduated from London University.
Subsequently, Jagdish Chandra Bose returned to India in the year 1885, after which he was appointed as Professor of Physics at the Presidency College, Kolkata, but kept at half the salary prescribed for the post. However, Bose opposed this discrimination and demanded a salary to be paid to Europeans for the post.
Despite the opposition, when Jagdish Chandra Bose did not get the same salary as the European, he refused to take salary and continued to teach without salary for three years. After this, the British officers gave a salary of three years together after seeing his merit. He received his doctorate from the University of London in 1896. In the year 1894, Bose devoted himself entirely to research and scientific discoveries. He first started using semiconductors to catch radio messages and then he made several important discoveries related to botany.
