Vajpayee was born on 25 December 1924 in Gwalior. His father’s name was Krishna Bihari Vajpayee and mother’s name was Krishna Devi. His father Krishna Bihari Vajpayee was a great poet of his village and a schoolmaster.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji had studied at Government Hirescondary School of Gorkhi Village, Bara Gorkhi, Gwalior. Later he went to Gwalior Victoria College (now Laxmi Bai College) to get education and passed through Distinction, English and Sanskrit. He completed his post graduation M.A. in Political Science from Dayanand Anglo-Vedic College, Kanpur. For this, he was also awarded first class degree.

He started doing political work from Arya Kumar Sabha of Gwalior, he was considered as the youth power of Arya Samaj at that time and in 1944 he also became its General Secretary.
Like a volunteer in 1939, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). And there, influenced by Babasaheb Apte, he trained at the Darmian RSS Training Camp of 1940–44 and became a full-time worker of the RSS in 1947.
Due to the seeds of partition, he left law studies in the middle. And as a pracharak he was sent to Uttar Pradesh and soon started working with Deendayal Upadhyay for newspapers like Rashtradharma (Hindi monthly), Panchajanya (Hindi weekly) and Dainik Swadesh and Veer Arjun.

And this started in 1957… when he first knocked in the Indian Parliament. When the second general election of Azad Hindutan took place… when Vajpayee stood for three places on the ticket of Bharatiya Jana Sangh. The bail was seized in Mathura. He was also defeated by Lucknow, but in Balaram Pur, he was elected by the public as his MP. And this was the beginning of his next 5 decades of parliamentary career.
Let me tell you that from 1968 to 1973 he was the President of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh. He has also been the Minister of External Affairs (External Affairs / Dispute) in Morarji Desai’s cabinet.
Like his other colleagues in the opposition parties, he too was sent to jail during the Emergency. He was made foreign minister in the Janata Party government in 1977.
During this time, he gave a speech at the United Nations session and he describes it as the best moment of his life so far. He was a founding member of the BJP in 1980.
He was the President of BJP from 1980 to 1986 and during this time he was also the leader of BJP Parliamentary Party. Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been elected to the Lok Sabha nine times so far.
Particularly in 1984, when he lost to Madhavrao Scindia of the Congress in Gwalior. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1962 to 1967 and 1986. In 1996, there was a wave of change in the country and BJP got the most seats and Atal ji held the post of Prime Minister of this country for the first time.
However, his government lasted only 13 days. But in the 1998 general elections, Vajpayee again proved the majority of his alliance with the allies in the Lok Sabha and thus once again became the Prime Minister.
During Atalji’s tenure, India became a nuclear-powered nation. He made several efforts to resolve Kashmir dispute with Pakistan, increase mutual trade and brotherhood. But after a tenure of 13 months, his government came to a minority with just one vote due to political conspiracy.

“The government that has to take unconstitutional steps to save them will not like to touch it with tongs”
After this, before the 1999 general elections, the Prime Minister as a caretaker gave a befitting reply to his nefarious actions to Pakistan in Kargil and India emerged victorious in the Kargil war.… At the time general elections were held and Atalji formed the government with the support of the people. India’s great statesman Atal Bihari Vajpayee breathed his last at the AIIMS Hospital in Delhi on August 16, 2018.
The cause of his death is said to be severe infection in urin, chest and kidney. He was very ill in the last days of his life. In 2009, he also succumbed to brain stroke, which also had a profound impact on his thinking power, and he was suffering from a disease called dementia.
There was a wave of mourning all over India on his death. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid him respectfully and at the same time President Ramnath Kovind had declared a national mourning of about 7 days on his death.
The flag of the country was half-tilted to honor Atal ji for seven days and to pay homage to him, and all the employees working in the central government office were given half-day leave.
Apart from this, state mourning was also declared by several state governments. Whereas Himachal government kept leave of schools in its state for 2 days.
