Jayaprakash Narayan, who played a major role in India’s freedom movement, was born in a Kayastha family on October 11, 1903, in Sitabadiyara in Saran district, Bihar.

His mother’s name was Phool Rani Devi and his father’s name was Harsu Dayal Sri Vaastav, who worked in the canal department of the state government.

Jayaprakash Narayan did his early education from Patna. He was very fond of reading magazines and books from the very beginning. At the same time during his schooling, he read the books of many big writers and had studied the biggest epic of Hinduism, Sri Madabhavadgita. During this time, British police officers arrested him and kept him in Hazaribagh jail. Bihar movement started by Jayprakash Narayan – Bihar Movement

After the independence of the country on August 15, 1947, Jayaprakash Narayan was made the president of the All India Railwaymen’s Federation of India’s largest labor force. Where he served for nearly 5 years.

At the same time, he notices that India has become free from the slavery of the British, but the economic, social and political situation of the country was still very bad.

In the country, many problems like inflation, unemployment, corruption, casteism were spread, in view of this, Jayaprakash Narayan started a mass movement by gathering youth and took out a silent procession in Patna in 1974. During this procession, the government also lathied the protesters.

After which Indira Gandhi, the first woman Prime Minister of the country imposed Emergency in the country on 25 June 1975 and during this time arrested all opposition leaders including Jayaprakash Narayan. At the same time, two years later, on January 18, 1977, the Indira Gandhi government removed the emergency from the country and then announced elections in March 1977.

During this election, the Janata Party was formed under the leadership of Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan and his party also won this election. However, during medical examination, JP’s kidney was found to be bad, after which he remained on dialysis for several days and then he died on 8 October 1979 due to heart attack in Patna.

Raman Magsaysay Award was awarded in 1965 by Jayaprakash Narayan, who made significant contribution in the freedom struggle.

In the year 1999, Jayaprakash Narayan has also been awarded the highest equal Bharat Ratna of India for the great work done by him.

Jayaprakash Narayan was also awarded the Rashtrabhushan Award on behalf of the FIE Foundation.
