Virender Sehwag  / Virender Sehwag is a famous former Indian cricket player. Sehwag is the only Indian player to have scored a triple century in a Test match. After Sir Donald Bradman and Brian Lara, Sehwag is the third batsman in the world to have scored a triple century in Test cricket twice. Sehwag used to give very quick starts to the Indian team throughout his career and used to dominate the bowlers from the beginning. By the time Sehwag was at the crease, the dread of his presence at the crease could be clearly seen on the foreheads of the opponents. Sehwag announced his retirement from international cricket on October 2015.

He played the first ODI for India in 1999 and the first Test match in 2001. In April 2009, Sehwag became the only Indian to be awarded the title of “Wisden Leading Cricketer of the Year”. He won this title again the following year as well.

Sehwag was born on 20 October 1978 in a Jat family in Haryana. Sehwag is the third child of his parents’ four children. Father’s name is Krishna and mother’s name is Krishna Sehwag. Sehwag has two elder sisters named Manju and Anju while he has a younger brother named Vinod. However, Sehwag’s childhood was spent in a joint family with his siblings, uncle, aunt and 16 brothers.

Sehwag’s father Krishna Sehwag says that his love for cricket was awakened from the age of seven months, when his father gave him a toy bat for the first time. After this, at the age of twelve, when he reached home after fracturing his teeth during cricket, his father banned him from playing cricket. This ban was broken only after the intervention of his mother. After that cricket always remained his first love.

Sehwag’s family is from Haryana and later he moved to Delhi. Later Sehwag went to Aurora Vidya School in New Delhi to study and Sehwag always used to torture his parents for playing cricket. On this basis, he made his mark as an aggressive batsman in the early stages of his cricket career and his coach at that time was Amar Nath Sharma. Sehwag got married in 2004 and his wife is Aarti Sehwag. They both have two sons. He lives with his family in the Najafgarh area of ​​Delhi.

Explosive batsman Virender Sehwag played his first international match against Pakistan in 1999. In this match, Sehwag went on to score one run and gave 35 runs in three overs during the bowling. After that he did not get any chance for 20 months. Sehwag was again included in the squad in December 2000 in the home series against Zimbabwe. In August 2001, in the tri-series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, Sehwag scored the first half-century of his career while opening the innings. In the same series against New Zealand, Sehwag showed his skills by scoring a century in 69 balls. Then in 2001, he scored 58 runs in 54 balls against Australia in Bangalore and also took three wickets. India won the match and Virender Sehwag got the man of the match title.

In 2001, Sehwag got the opportunity to play his first Test cricket as a middle-order batsman against South Africa in Bloemfontein, in which he scored 105 runs, the winning team of this match was South Africa. After this he was thrown out of the match by the ICC Board due to overupping. He was fielded as an opener in the 2002 England Tour, his performance was excellent. In 2004, he scored a triple century (309) against Pakistan and entered his name as the first Indian batsman at the international level. Apart from this, he also played an innings of 309 runs against South Africa in 2008.

Sehwag was considered an expert in scoring big and smoky centuries in international cricket. Sehwag is the only Indian player to have scored a triple century in a Test match. Sehwag is the third batsman in the world after Don Bradman and Brian Lara to have scored a triple century in Test cricket twice.

Sehwag holds many records, including the record for most runs (319) in Test cricket by any Indian cricketer, as well as the fastest triple century ever in international cricket history (300 runs in just 278 balls) and He also holds the record of the fastest 250 runs in his name (207 balls against Sri Lanka on 3 December 2009 at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai). His second innings included 309 and 293, the second and third highest scores by any Indian batsman.

He missed out on making a world record of three triple centuries against Sri Lanka by just seven runs in Mumbai. He also became the fourth batsman in the world to be dismissed between 290 and 299. Sehwag is the batsman to score six double centuries for India. Sehwag has a habit of scoring big centuries. The last 11 centuries he has scored in Test matches have scored above 150 in all. These include two triples and three double centuries. Sehwag, who scored a century in his very first Test, was compared to his idol Sachin Tendulkar. But with time Sehwag proved that he has a different style of his own.

In 2005, Sehwag was appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian team under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid. While remaining the vice-captain, he also captained the Indian team in two ODIs and one Test match after Rahul Dravid was injured. After returning to the home ground in 2008, when Anil Kumble took retirement, Sehwag was appointed as the vice-captain in both the Test and ODI categories.
